nitpicks (nitpicks.net) is a directory of software and online services. This page describes the information the site stores and who can see it.

Accounts

Creating an account stores your email address and a hashed password. nitpicks sends a confirmation message from [email protected] before you can submit a listing, claim one, or write a review. After you sign in, the site keeps a session cookie named nitpicks_session for 14 days. The cookie is httpOnly. On nitpicks.net it is also Secure and limited to that host. The cookie is how the site knows you are signed in. It is not used for advertising.

Listings, reviews, and claims

A listing you submit stores the product details you enter, including the website, description, price, and screenshots. Staff decide when a draft is published. A published review stores whether it is positive or negative, the review text, and the display name you choose. Your account is attached to the review so you can edit your own draft, and that account link is not shown on the public page. A domain claim stores the proof method and the result. A verified claim shows a badge on the listing.

Messages

The lead form on a listing stores your name, email, and message for the owner of that listing. Other visitors cannot read it. A report stores the reason you selected and any note you added, for staff. The contact form stores your name, email, topic, and message so staff can reply. A search that finds nothing may be saved as the query text so staff can see what is missing. View and click totals on a listing are counts, not a record of who visited.

Payments

Sponsored placements and profile upgrades are paid through Stripe. nitpicks stores the plan, the dates, and the payment reference Stripe returns. Card numbers stay with Stripe. A placement is labeled Sponsored on the page it buys. It does not change the relevance order of the organic list.

Who receives information

Staff can read accounts, drafts, reports, claims, leads, and contact messages in the admin. A listing owner can read leads and published reviews for listings they control. Email is sent through the site’s mail provider. Payments are processed by Stripe. nitpicks does not sell personal information.

How long it stays

Account details stay until the account is removed. Published listings, reviews, and comparisons stay while they are part of the directory. Staff can unpublish a review or a listing without deleting the draft. Contact messages and leads stay so the recipient can answer them. You can ask for a copy of your account information, or for it to be deleted, from the contact page.
